TAFE NSW is Australia’s largest vocational education and training provider. For more than 100 years, it has been skilling the workforce of New South Wales (NSW). TAFE NSW educates more than 500,000 students a year in 1,200 course curricula, across 160+ campuses. In 2016 it embarked on a ‘once in a generation’ modernisation, which meant consolidating 12 separate entities into a single ‘OneTAFE’ with centralised contingent workforce management.

The launch of Contractor Central – a system for the supply of contingent labour and talent management – was deployed by Kelly OCG in November 2017. The managed service provision, which increased the number of diverse suppliers to the talent supply chain, and improved invoice payments with zero backlog, delivered positive results within five months, exceeding KPIs including spend visibility and contingent workforce tenure.

By the end of 2018, TAFE NSW had 100% visibility of all contingent labour, enabling leadership to make informed decisions on workforce management, while ensuring compliance with regulations including police checks. By the end of 2019, the programme had achieved average savings of 5.44%. Today, the project is widely regarded as one of the most complex, and best managed, of its kind in NSW government.
